Crime Watch employees in court
Two Crime Watch employees have appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate charged with stealing $10,000 from the show's host, Ian Alleyne.
Akile Simon, 36, from Curepe, and Sheldon Ramnath, 27, from San Fernando both appeared before senior magistrate Rajendra Rambachan.
They were both charged with charged with larceny.
Simon plead not guilty, while Ramnath plead guilty.
Cpl Mark Phillips of the Chaguanas CID was the charging officer in this matter.
The State was represented by police prosecutor Sgt Soodeen, while the two accused were represented by attorney Taradath Singh.
Singh submitted that Ramnath was a first-time offender and was apologetic for his actions. He said the 27-year-old did not waste the court’s time and had plead guilty on the first occurrence. He added that he had instructions that Ramnath stole the money to pay off a debt he had unfortunately incurred.
After further submissions the matter was adjourned to Monday.
Alleyne told police that on January 10, he secured a quantity of cash in his vehicle in the parking lot of his business place at Endeavour Road, Chaguanas.
He said when he returned to the car a few hours later, he checked and discovered the money missing. A report was made, and an investigation launched into the incident.
The two were subsequently arrested by officers of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department in connection with the report.
The money was recovered at the San Fernando home of one of the suspects.
