Cue wedding bells: Nicki Minaj reveals she got marriage licence

It looks as though Nicki Minaj will be walking down the aisle pretty soon.

During the latest episode of her Beats 1 show, 'Queen Radio' on Friday, the 'Chun Li' rapper announced that she and her boyfriend, Kenneth Petty, had recently obtained their marriage licence.

"We did get our marriage license," she confirmed on air. "I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I'm there, I don't want to compromise that for anyone or anything."

When asked whether she was expecting or planned to get pregnant soon, she danced around the question but said," I’m not saying I’m pregnant. That’s the end goal.”

The pair, who started dating late last year, have known each other since their childhood days growing up in Queens.

"If I'm being honest, spiritually, I'm at the best place I've been in a long time. I think who you have in your life determines how you feel spiritually. I'm happy now with or without a man, but it just so happens the n***a in my life, he's known me since I was 14. He knows the real me, I don't have to pretend. There's a different level of friendship and passion I've never had before. So nurturing and knows just what to say to make me feel empowered."

Most recently, he was her leading man in the music video for her latest hit, 'Megatron', which debuted at #1 on iTunes.

While Nicki seems to be smitten and ready to start her family, many around her, including her fans, have approached her connection to her new fiancé with less enthusiasm.

Petty is an ex-con, serving jail time on two separate occasions, for attempted first-degree rape and manslaughter. He went to prison for nearly four years starting in 1995 when he and the victim in the rape case were both teens. Then, in 2006, he began a nearly seven-year prison sentence for first-degree manslaughter, being released on parole in May 2013.

When she first went public with her relationship and fans began discussing his criminal past, Nicki commented, “He was 15, she was 16…in a relationship. But go awf, Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”
