Cunupia man charged with murder
A 45-year-old man was charged with the murder of Devon Brown, who was stabbed to death on June 22, 2020.
Kevin Harrynarine, of Cunupia, was charged with killing Brown and appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday.
The matter was heard virtually before Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan, while PC La Rode was the complainant (charging officer) in the matter.
Harrynarine was represented by attorney Nicole Maharaj, while the state was represented by Sgt Soodeen.
After submissions to the court, the matter was adjourned to August 3.
Harrynarine was charged on Friday following instructions received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.
Initially, following Brown’s death, a 27-year-old woman was detained and questioned, during which she claimed she had been attacked and was defending herself.
However, following further inquiries, Harrynarine was detained on June 29.
Brown, 32, of Balmain, Couva, was found bleeding at the side of Esmeralda Road, Cunupia, around 1.50 am on June 22, by officers on patrol.
The man was rushed to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, however, he succumbed to his wounds within an hour.
The officers followed the trail of blood to a house with an annexed bar.
More on this as it becomes available.
