Cunupia man held after rifle found stashed under mattress

A Cunupia man was arrested and a rifle and quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Central Division Task Force during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Cunupia district on Wednesday night.

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers, led by Sgt. Glen Persad, conducted the exercise around 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, August 1 during which they executed a search warrant at the Jonathan Trace, Cunupia home of a 24-year-old man.

The search resulted in one Ruger Charger rifle loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of .22 ammo being discovered hidden under a mattress in a bedroom of the house.

The man who was in the house at the time of the exercise was arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations are ongoing.
