Cutlass-wielding bandit robs elderly woman

Police are investigating a report of a home invasion in which a man armed with a cutlass attacked and robbed a 76-year-old woman.

The incident took place around 2 am on Saturday along McLeon Street, Palmiste.

According to police reports, the victim was asleep in her bedroom when she was awakened by a noise, only to find a man standing in her bedroom, armed with a cutlass.

The man’s face was covered with a piece of cloth and he was wearing dark clothing.

The assailant announced a holdup.

He ordered the victim to remain silent as he proceeded to relieve her of a quantity of cash and valuables, including TT$9,000, US$800, and four gold and diamond rings together valued US$1,200.

The assailant also stole the elderly woman’s cellular phone and other items of value.

He then escaped on foot.

The victim raised an alarm and a team of officers led by WPC Harripersad visited the scene.
