Updated: Danah Alleyne rescued, hostage taker killed by police
The sister of a popular television host has been rescued after being held hostage by her boyfriend on Friday.
The victim is Danah Alleyne, the sister of Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne.
Police say around 6 pm, they received a report of a hostage situation at Biljah Road, Chaguanas.
A party of officers led by her brother-in-law, acting Superintendent Wayne Mystar, went to the scene. On arrival, they met a man armed with a firearm who refused to let Alleyne leave.
He reportedly threatened to "kill" anybody who approached.
The suspect stepped outside and officers allegedly became fearful and shot him in the leg.
Emergency Health Services were contacted and took the injured man to the hospital where he died.
Meanwhile, Alleyne was rescued from a room.
A firearm and ammunition were seized.
The accused is the holder of a firearm users license.
Alleyne made headlines in 2007 after she found herself on stage with international artiste, Akon, at age 14. This incident made global headlines and led to the closure of Zen night club and Akon losing millions in endorsements.
He later released a song "Sorry, blame it on me", in that same year, in which he apologized for his involvement in the controversy.
