Dead body found bound in duct tape, wrapped in sheets in Maraval
Police are investigating after the body of a man was found wrapped in bedsheets in Maraval on Thursday.
According to reports, around 4.25 pm, a resident of the area was walking along Camille Street, Maraval, when, upon reaching the Anderson Terrace intersection, discovered the body of a man wrapped in bedsheets in a drain.
The resident contacted an officer known to her – Police Constable Oxley and reported the find.
When the officer arrived on the scene he found the body wrapped in two bed sheets with yellow plastic bags covering the head and chest.
The body was removed from the drain on orders of the District Medical Officer (DMO) and further examined.
The victim appeared to be of African descent and in his mid-twenties; no identification was found on the body.
The victim’s hands were crossed over his chest and his chest bound with duct tape. Both feet were bound in duct tape and covered with another yellow plastic bag.
Gaping wounds were observed on his head.
The DMO made a pronouncement and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre, pending a post mortem examination.
Investigations are continuing.
