Debe man gets lifetime driving ban

A 62-year-old man has been banned from driving for the rest of his life.

Lenny Morgan of Debe was banned by Magistrate Anslem Leander at the San Fernando Magistrate's Court after he was charged for a third time for driving while under the influence.

He has been previously fined in November 2012, and June 2014.

The man was also fined $14,000, which has to be paid in four months or he will face a default of three years of hard labour in prison.

Morgan was originally detained on January 28, during a roadblock exercise along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.

He was stopped by PC La Borde, who observed alcohol on the driver’s breath.

His speech, the court was told, was also slurred and Morgan’s eyes were red.

A breathalyser was administered and Morgan's reading was 101 microgrammes per millilitre of breath.

The legal limit in this country is 35 microgrammes.
