Decomposing body found in waters off North Coast

Police are investigating a possible murder after a decomposing body was found near Carrera Island off the North Coast on Monday.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) said it received a report of a body found floating two miles east of Carrera Island at 12.14 pm. 

The diving team was deployed and the body was retrieved and brought ashore at 1.49 pm.

According to the TTCG release, the partially decomposed body was that of a male of African descent, six feet tall, clad in black t-shirt, blue jeans and blue sneakers.

The body was taken to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas and was handed over to the Carenage Police Station.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, once the man is identified.
