Demolition on the old San Fernando Magistrates' Court is expected to begin later today and continue over the course of the weekend.
The San Fernando City Corporation on Friday advised that demolition on the crumbling, historic building would begin from 6 pm and end around midday on Sunday.
The City Corporation further advised that vehicles will not be able to access Harris Promenade from Harris Street during this time.
Additionally, the public is advised that the streets adjacent to the San Fernando Police Station from the San Fernando General Hospital to Harris Street Corner has been designated a no-entry zone.
The building was initially “temporarily” closed in September 2017 and the five courts housed at the building relocated to the Madinah Building and the San Fernando High Court, for a month to allow for urgent repairs to the ceiling and roof as well as asbestos cleaning.
The dilapidated building remained closed for two years for these renovations.
However, it was revealed in April that the building would instead be demolished.
