Devon Matthews nominated for civic award

Late soca artiste and radio host Devon Matthews has been nominated for a civic award at next month’s Arima Fest celebrations.

The decision was taken a meeting of the Arima Borough Council last week, where it was determined that Matthews was a suitable nominee due to his extensive contributions to the arts and culture.

Mourning his passing and extending condolences to his relatives, Arima Mayor Lisa Morris-Julian said the Council will push ahead with its plans to honour his contributions.

Morris-Julian said Matthews would not be forgotten.

“On behalf of the Arima borough council I wish to extend condolences on the untimely death of one of our own, Arima son Devon Matthews, who exemplified the ideals of Arima – kindness, creativity and patriotism.

We shall never forget his tremendous contribution to the music and media industry. We also shall not forget his love for Arima.

I also extend special condolences to his mother and all extended members of the Matthews family.”
