Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has issued an apology to those patients in step-down and quarantine facilities who are still awaiting their COVID-19 test results.

According to media reports, several COVID-19 patients in step-down facilities have expressed concerned about delayed results over the past few weeks.

Speaking at the Ministry of Health's virtual media briefing on Saturday, Deyalsingh acknowledged the delay and humbly apologised to the patients.

He said: "I want to sincerely apologise to all of those persons in our step-down or quarantine facilities who have not yet received your results. I humbly apologise. I can only imagine the anxiety you are going through because you did not call this upon yourselves."

The Health Minister further assured the patients that the Ministry is working to clear the backlog in the shortest possible time.

Deyalsingh added: "We hope to get your results in the shortest possible timeframe so you can go back home. I do apologise, and simply ask that you bear with us for another day or so."

According to the Ministry of Health's 10 am update on Saturday, there are 283 COVID-19 positive patients in step-down/transition facilities.
