Digicel Foundation Blueprint: Honey Seco a sweet success
Created : 7 June 2017
Digicel Foundation partnered with the Brasso Seco/Morne La Croix Farmers’ Association last July to implement a Community Bee Apiary in Brasso Seco.
In April the community had its first harvest honey, which they have bottled under the clever label - ‘Honey Seco’.
The sweet thing about this social entrepreneurship project is the fact that the community was able to mobilise support from other key stakeholders (UNDP, Caribbean Institute of Natural Resources (CANARI) and the Canadian High Commission) to include climate change adaptations, such as a rainwater harvesting system and solar energy.
The Foundation has further deepened its relationship with the community cooperative to have the golden honey product available to sale at two Digicel flagship stores.
On May 26, 2017 ‘Honey Seco’ went on sale at the Digicel Westmall branch. Since the launch, Honey Seco is also available at Digicel’s newly opened C3 location.
The partnership has been nothing short of a sweet success for the community.
