DJ Private Ryan: Give soca a chance
DJ Private Ryan is asking Carnival fans to be patient.
The DJ responded via Twitter on Sunday, as Trinis gear up for Carnival 2017, asking for them to chill out:
"Every year for carnival its the same convo "soca this year is trash" three weeks later its "omg I love the music" moral is give it a chance”.
In about six hours, his tweet received 211 retweets and 209 likes.
One person replied to the tweet and said:
“The 'mere-exposure effect' - a preference based on familiarity. The more u hear the more u like. You djs know about this.”
Barbados’ DJ Puffy, Redbull Thre3style World Champion quoted DJ Private Ryan’s tweet and said that the problem is not unique to any island, country or territory.
Typing ‘lol’ he added, “IN EVERY ISLAND!”
Both deejays are slated for numerous parties in Trinidad over the next few weeks leading up to Carnival.
Private Ryan, who is originally from T&T but travels worldwide regularly, made the comment via his Twitter two days after he dropped a soca mix.
On Facebook sharing the link to his creation, he said, “Soca Starter 2017 is out now. Just a taste of the Soca for 2017 in an hour and a half of the songs in rotation currently. This is a preview to the Soca Brainwash 2017 mix coming in a few weeks. Many more amazing tracks for the season still to be featured on Soca brainwash 2017. Enjoy!!!”
The Soca Starter 2017 post with the accompanying link for download was shared 445 times and liked over 1 200 times. In the 139 comments received was much love, happiness, joy and relief as many seemed to be awaiting Private Ryan’s 2017 mix anxiously.
