The Drop: Nailah gives Iron Love, Precision celebrates 10

It’s that time of the year again. Yes, it’s time for new soca releases. As the year rapidly gallops towards Carnival 2019, soca releases are dropping almost daily. Each week, Loop will give you a look at these new releases in this new series called The Drop.

Here are the songs that were dropped over the last week:

Nailah Blackman gives Iron Love

Nailah Blackman debuted her first release for Carnival 2019 on Sunday night at KMP Music Lab in San Fernando. The song, Iron Man, is a loose remake of her grandfather’s Lord Shorty’s calypso Cory Iron. Blackman says the song, which features the Laventille Riddim Section, is also a play on words meaning I On Love. She said with all the crime and hate in the world, she wants to put the emphasis on love. Iron Love was written by Blackman and Mical Teja and produced by Anson Pro.

Precision celebrates 10

Carnival 2019 is the season that Precision Production releases its 10th Soca compilation album, We Muzik Vol 10. To mark the milestone, the team has produced its first riddim for the season called ‘10X Over’ which starts with the track “Day Time Party”, vocalised by Kimba Sorzano, who gives us a riveting description about this particular type of fete, which has exploded in popularity in the last few years on the Carnival circuit. Then we take a sensual and passionate look into the minds and hearts of women and men, with “Into You” and “Whole Heart”, sung by Patrice Roberts and St. Vincent’s Problem Child, respectively. The riddim features the writing of Josiah St. Lewis-Noray as well as seasoned veteran, Shertz James.

Erphaan Alves still in love

Erphaan Alves is still in love. On Sunday night, the singer unveiled his first official release for Carnival 2019 called Blaze In Love.  The song was written by Alves and produced by Lunatix Production.  Alves also launched a dance video to accompany the song.

Preedy embraces Dennery Segment

Akeem “Preedy” Chance is switching things up this Carnival season. With his first release for 2019, he has gone to St Lucia to embrace the Dennery Segment.  He said: “One of my goals, is to be a writer of remarkable versatility. While visiting St. Lucia, embracing and appreciating the music and culture of such a beautiful Caribbean Island, I was inspired. Being an Islandboy myself, I decided to experiment with Dennery Segment. Sitting on the shore of their beautiful beach, I conceptualized "Lost and Found". The idea came from seeing the struggle most men face when trying to "cop" a wine in a party or on the road. It's a civilised and clever way to "thief a wine". “ Lost and Found was written by Preedy and produced by Khrome Productions and Nikholai Greene.

Patrice and Sekon Sta team up

Patrice Roberts is proving to be very popular this Carnival season. One of the tracks she is featured on is My Side with Sekon Sta. The song is a mellow groovy soca written by Sekon Sta and produced by Advokit.

Tizzy brings the power

Antiguan songstress and Roy Cape frontwoman stands out in the sea of groovy soca with a new power soca called Feter’s World written by Jovan James, Sherrard Churche, Jerome Antoine and T. Sebastian.
