Duke to be charged for sedition

Instructions have been given to proceed with at least one charge of sedition against Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Minority Leader Watson Duke.

Confirmation came from National Security Minister Stuart Young at the Post Cabinet media briefing on Thursday.

The Minister revealed that he was informed just before the briefing that Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard gave clearance to proceed with at least one charge under the Sedition Act against Duke, who has been hospitalised for the past two days.

Meanwhile, Young denied assertions by political opponents that Government had any part in any recent sedition charges being brought against any individual.

As the Minister of National Security I can say categorically at no point in time were any instructions given or did I interfere with any police investigation.”

Duke was held for questioning by police on Monday in relation to publicly uttered statements.
