Off duty cop kills taxi driver in Edinburgh

One man is dead following a shooting incident in Edinburgh 500 this morning.

The incident involved an off duty police officer.

While information is still coming in, Looptt was told that around 11 am today, two taxi drivers were seen arguing with one another in a vehicle near the Edinburgh 500 taxi stand.

During this confrontation, one of the men allegedly pulled out a firearm.

At the same time, an off duty police officer was passing by.

On seeing the weapon, the officer challenged the armed taxi-driver.

The officer claimed the taxi-driver pointed the weapon at him and he opened fire.

The taxi driver, who police said is only known at this point as “Bruno”, was killed on the scene.

Central Division Police, led by Snr Sup Samuel, as well as crime scene investigators, are currently on location
