Earthquake number 9: 4.0 quake strikes South East of Trinidad

Trinidad and Tobago has experienced its ninth earthquake in just under two weeks.

At 8.40 am on Thursday, a magnitude 4.0 quake struck South East of San Fernando, Arima and Port-of-Spain.

Thursday’s seismic event follows a magnitude 4.4 quake on Tuesday night.

According to the UWI Seismic Research Centre’s Automatic Earthquake Location, Thursday’s earthquake was located at latitude: 9.85 North, longitude: 60.48 West and struck at a depth of 30 km.

The quake struck 117 km South East of San Fernando, 124 km South East of Arima, and 145 km South East of Port of Spain.

The UWI SRC says this event was automatically located by a seismological computational system and has not yet been reviewed by an analyst.

The result is preliminary and may vary when new additional data are processed.
