Earthquake strikes west of T&T

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Trinidad on Friday.

The earthquake was recorded at 12.55 pm.

According to the Automatic Earthquake Location from the UWI Seismic Research Centre the quake struck at latitude 10.65 North, longitude 62.45 West and at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The quake originated 86 kilometres East of CarĂºpano, Venezuela, 104 kilometres West of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and 118 kilometres North West of San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago.

Residents across the country, in San Fernando, Chaguanas, Cunupia, D’Abadie and Cascade reported feeling the earthquake.

The SRC said, however, that this event has not been reviewed by an analyst and is subject to change as it was automatically located by a seismological computational system.
