EBC reissues ballot papers to Special Electors
Due to an error in the initial exercise, ballot papers for Special Electors voting in the December 2 Local Government Election will now have to be reissued.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) in a statement on Thursday said the proper procedure was not followed in certain electoral districts when they were issued on Wednesday.
As a result, in accordance with Election Rule 22(7) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01, the Government Printer will be required to destroy these defective ballots and provide certification of same.
Ballot papers intended for use by Special Electors in the affected electoral districts will be re-issued on Thursday with the aim of maintaining the integrity of the process.
The EBC advised that no Special Elector has as yet received a ballot paper.
Voting for Special Electors begins next Monday at the offices of the respective Returning Officers, or from Tuesday at the Special Polling Stations established by the Commission for that purpose.
Returning Officers have been advised to make the necessary arrangements.
