Education Ministry launches online development programme for teachers

The Ministry of Education launched its Online Professional Development Programme (OPDP) yesterday.

The Programme is the latest in the Ministry’s digital transformation efforts and the newest offering from the Teacher Education, Performance and Professional Development Division to promote professional development.

The OPDP is designed to improve teacher efficiency through an enhanced technological approach. It was developed in conjunction with the Information Communication & Technology Division (ICTD), Curriculum Planning and Development Division, NIHERST, Student Support Services Division, Early Childhood Care and Education Unit and the School Supervision and Management Divisions of the Ministry of Education.

Dr Lovell Francis, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education said, “This programme is important to us as we have been focused on creating differentiated learning techniques in all classrooms. In any given classroom, there are learners who receive and perceive information differently… the goal of the teacher is to reach each child in a way that targets his or her different learning style.”

Chief Education Officer, Mr Harrilal Seecheran endorsed the Programme saying that the initiative will equip teachers to create and plan lessons for every student, particularly children with Special Needs, as the Ministry delves further into making all classrooms and schools inclusive.
