Eight arrested with hand grenade, cache of weapons in Valencia

A hand grenade was found and seized on Saturday morning during a police exercise in Valencia.

The grenade was among a cache of ammunition and marijuana which was found at the home.

Eight persons are currently in custody for possession of the illegal items.

LoopTT was told that around 5 am on Saturday, members of the Central Division Operations Unit headed by SGT Haywood, with assistance from Cpl Singh and Cpl Valley, among several others, executed a search warrant at a home along Castillano Trace, Valencia Old Road, Valencia.

In the presence of eight persons, the officers searched the home for firearms and ammunition.

However, what they found and seized was one hand grenade, several rounds of 9mm ammunition, a full army green camouflage kit, and approximately a kilogramme of marijuana.

As a result, all eight persons were arrested at said premises and brought to the Chaguanas Police Station.

They are to be questioned again today, and charged with the relevant offences.
