Eight arrested in Laventille on shooting offences

Eight people are currently in police custody as investigators conduct inquiries into shooting related offences in the Port of Spain district.

The eight men, said to be between the ages of 18 and 35, were arrested Thursday morning during a joint police exercise in the capital city.

The exercise took place between 3am and 8am on Thursday, and included Snr Sup Persad, Inspector Powder, Sgt Austin, Cpl Ince, PC John, and PC McShine, among several other officers from various units, including the Besson Street Police Station, the Port of Spain CID, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Criminal Records Office, and the City Police Task Force.

The eight were held in at Pashley Street, Laventille, and the John John community.

They are expected to be questioned before being charged.
