Eight people were arrested during roadblocks conducted in Port of Spain on Monday.

Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force carried out several checks throughout the capital city, as thousands of people took to the streets for J’ouvert celebrations early this morning.

The eight people were arrested for a number of offences including marijuana possession, obscene language, camouflage clothing and drug paraphernalia.

Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith and National Security Minister Stuart Young are currently on the ground in Port of Spain as J'ouvert celebrations wind down.

Speaking with reporters, Griffith said it has been an incident free Carnival thus far.

He again assured that officers will be out in their numbers to ensure the safety of all persons.
