Elderly couple assaulted in home invasion

An elderly couple had to be treated for injuries sustained during an armed robbery at their home.

The couple, aged 73 and 71, owns a supermarket in San Juan.

Due to the circumstances, their names are being withheld.

The incident took place around 2 am on Thursday.

The couple was asleep in their bedroom when they were awakened by five men, one armed with a firearm.

One of the suspects assaulted both victims while demanding that they surrender all their cash and valuables.

The elderly couple, fearful for their lives, complied with the demands of the assailants.

In total, the police were told, over $200,000 in cash and valuables were stolen.

After the assailants escaped, the police were notified, and officers from the San Juan Police Station visited the scene.

While they were traumatised, the injuries sustained by the couple are reportedly not of a serious nature.
