Elderly couple rescued in Woodbrook fire

An 83-year-old woman and her 80-year-old husband were rescued by fire officers after a blaze gutted part of their Woodbrook home on Tuesday morning. 

According to reports, around 5 am, fire officers were called to respond to a fire at Buller Street, Woodbrook.

On arrival, they found part of a one-story building in flames.

The fire was contained and Joanne Wilson and Mervyn Ayres were rescued.

They were both treated by ambulance and were not taken to the hospital.

The building is valued at $2 million with damages caused to 20 percent of the household.

Destroyed in the blaze were appliances, books, clothing and wooden furniture
