Elderly La Horquetta woman appears in court on gun charge
A 72-year-old woman appeared before an Arima Magistrate on Monday charged with possession of a firearm.
Lerelvis Stanley, of Phase 2, La Horquetta, appeared before Magistrate Gillian David Scotland.
She was charged by PC Forde.
The matter was called, and Stanley was placed on bail of $10,000.
The case was then adjourned to June 2.
The elderly woman was arrested on Friday night during a police exercise by officers attached to the La Horquetta Police Station.
A team of officers, including Cpl Bernard, Cpl Norbert, PC Forde, PC George, PC Vieira, PC Kokeran, and PC Singh, among several others, made their way to the home to execute a search warrant in the name of a 42-year-old man.
The man, said to be a relative of the 72-year-old woman, was not at home at the time.
However, the elderly woman was at home and complied with the search.
A black and silver Ruger 9 mm pistol was allegedly found and seized at the home.
The woman was detained as a result and an arrest warrant drawn up for the relative.
More on this as it becomes available.
