Elderly man attacks neighbour

A 74-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked his neighbour with a metal rod.

The incident left the 42-year-old man so seriously wounded that his left eye was likely to have been ruptured, and the surrounding areas near the orbital walls suffered fractures.

The pensioner is expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate, police said, having been charged by PC James.

The incident allegedly took place at 3.30 pm on Saturday.

The two men, who both reside at homes along Dumfries Road, Hermitage Village, San Fernando, were having a conversation in the presence of a group of other persons.

The conversation became heated, during which the 74-year-old man secured a metal rod, and attacked the 42-year-old man, hitting him to the left side of his face.

The injured man rushed for medical treatment, and the police were notified.

The suspect was subsequently arrested on Tuesday.

After further inquiries, the 74-year-old man was charged.
