Elderly man dies in San Juan fire
A 64-year-old man is dead following a fire in San Juan on Thursday night.
According to police reports, the deceased was identified as Cecil Andrews.
Officials were told that around 7.00 pm Thursday night, officials at the San Juan fire station got a call of a fire along Noreiga Lane, Laventille Road, off the Saddle Road in San Juan.
They were told that a man was trapped in the house.
Appliances from the Wrightson Road and Woodbrook also responded.
When officers arrived, it was quickly discovered that the house was approximately 150 meters from the roadway and up a hill, and provided a challenge for officers to get their hoses to the blaze.
The house was also heavily burglar-proofed.
Andrews, police were told, could not escape, nor were fire officers able to reach him in time.
The house was completely destroyed.
Officials said no cause for the fire has been determined.

Fire leaves elderly siblings homeless
In an unrelated incident, another fire which occurred in Marabella on Thursday morning has left two brothers homeless.
The fire reportedly took place around 6.00 am at a house along Battoo Avenue.
At the time of the fire, one of the brothers, a 58-year-old man was asleep, while his sibling, aged 60, was outside.
The fire was observed to the front of the house and an alarm was raised.
The 58-year-old man was awakened and rushed out of the home.
However, the fire spread quickly.
Fire officers arrived on the scene and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures, however, the house was destroyed.
No one was hurt.
