Elderly man hospitalised after chopping attack in Cumuto

A 67-year-old man is warded in a serious condition at the Sangre Grande District Hospital after he was chopped on Thursday during a robbery at his home.

The victim has been identified as John Mohammed of Sankar Trace, Cumuto.

He was said to have been at his home at about 1:00 pm Thursday when three armed men forced their way onto the premises.

They announced a holdup and began attacking the elderly man.

During the process, Mohammed was chopped to the left side of his head.

The suspects then escaped in Mohammed’s vehicle – a Toyota Station Wagon – which was parked outside.

The elderly man raised an alarm and the police and emergency health services were notified.

He was rushed for medical treatment, and up to this morning, was said to be warded in a serious but stable condition.
