Elderly man robbed, 'kidnapped' after withdrawing cash from bank

A 77-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint and “kidnapped” minutes after he withdrew money from a bank.

The incident took place around 10.00 am on Wednesday in the vicinity of the First Citizen’s Bank along Penal Rock Road, Penal, police said.

The victim had just exited the bank, having withdrawn $3,000.

The man placed $1,000 in his pants pocket and $2,000 in his shirt.

While standing along the roadway, he was accosted by two men, one of which appeared to be armed with a  firearm.

The men ordered the pensioner into a vehicle, which he did against his will.

They then drove to Beckles Avenue, where they robbed him of the $2,000, not knowing he had the money in his pants.

They then drove to the SS Erin Road and told the 77-year-old to exit the car.

The pensioner walked to the Penal Police Station and made a report.

WPC Mohammed is continuing investigations.
