Elderly US resident robbed in Port of Spain

A 72-year-old US resident was robbed on Thursday morning in Port of Spain.

The incident took place at about 10:00 am along Frederick St, Port of Spain.

The victim was walking south along the pavement when he felt a strong tug on his left hand.

A gold 'beera' (bracelet) that he was wearing – valued at US$3,500 – was pulled off his hand, with the elderly man suffering injuries as a result.

The suspect then escaped by running away.

The police were notified and WPC Worrel has been appointed to investigate the matter.

The suspect was described as a man of African descent, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, of medium build, about 165 pounds, wearing a black shirt and black long pants.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Central Police Station in Port of Spain, or they can give the information anonymously through 555 or 800-TIPS.

This is the second such incident reported in the capital city over a matter of days.
