Elderly woman chopped during home invasion

A 62-year-old woman is warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope after she was chopped during a home invasion on Monday.

The woman’s two sons, aged 32 and 35, were also beaten and chopped in the incident, however their injuries were not said to be as serious.

The incident happened around 2.30 am on Monday morning at the family’s home along Bhadase Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas.

Police officers were told that the family was awakened by loud sounds at the front of the home.

Upon investigating, they were confronted by armed men who announced a hold-up. The assailants then began attacking the family, hitting them with a cutlass.

The 62-year-old woman was hit to her head, while her sons were hit to their hands and chest.

The family handed over an undisclosed sum of money, and jewellery, following which, the thieves escaped in a waiting vehicle.

The police and paramedics were notified and officers of the Chaguanas CID responded.
