Emancipation Day shootings leave one dead, two injured
A 30-year-old man is dead following a shooting in Ste Madeline on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Atiba Jeremiah, of Green Hill, Ste Madeline.
According to police reports, at about 2 am on Thursday, Jeremiah was entering his driveway in a black Nissan Sylphy when he was approached by three men, one of whom was carrying a firearm.
The armed assailant shot at Jeremiah, hitting him about the body, after which the assailants fled the scene.
The police and paramedics were notified, and the injured man was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital.
He succumbed to his injuries at about 5 pm on Thursday.
In an unrelated incident, a 41-year-old man was shot on Thursday afternoon in Diego Martin.
The victim has been identified as Kevin Grosvenor.
According to police reports, at about 2 pm on Thursday, the victim was with two other men in a black Toyota RAV4 which was proceeding east along Julien Park, Diego Martin, when they observed a man standing along the roadway.
Without warning the man, who was wearing a grey vest and green pants, pulled out a firearm and shot at the car.
He then fled the scene on foot.
In the aftermath, Grosvenor was shot in his right shoulder, right forearm, and waist.
The other two men escaped unharmed.
The police and paramedics were notified and the injured man was rushed for medical treatment.
Just after that incident, in Morvant, a 38-year-old woman was left nursing gunshot injuries following a shooting.
The victim has been identified as Laura Charles, of Second Caledonia, Morvant.
Around 3 pm, Charles was reportedly in the yard of her home when she was approached by an unknown man who pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her.
Charles attempted to flee but she heard several loud explosions and felt a burning sensation to her left leg.
The assailant fled the scene.
The police and paramedics were notified and the injured woman was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital where she was treated.
