If you have any doubts that Carnival 2020 is upon us, then you just need to pay attention to the soca scene.

New music has been dropping almost steadily for the past few weeks with riddims such as the One Love, Melanin and Happy riddims and releases from Lexxi, GailsoGorgeous and Abdiel, among others.

On Thursday night, Erphaan Alves added to the excitement when he launched his 2020 offering Soca Global.

Alves’ launch at Buzz Bar, One Woodbrook Place, was more than the launch of one song. He used the occasion to launch his 2020 Carnival season which included his new website and events from tEAm, his collective of friends and family with whom he works with to stage a number of events and do charity.

He also launched the video for Soca Global, which was produced by filmmaker Steven Taylor. In the song, Erphaan talks of his readiness to take soca to the world.

Alves, who has been pushing the ‘No Seasons’ campaign to promote the release of soca music all year, is positioning himself to be an ambassador for soca.

The launch was attended by some of his closest colleagues in the business, Aaron ‘Voice’ St Louis, Sekon Sta and Blaxx and a number of other players in the soca industry including producer Travis World, Kernal Roberts and TUCO President Lutalo Masimba aka Brother Resistance.
