Excellent Stores launches first Christmas Show Windows competition

For Christmas this year, Excellent Stores has launched the first ever initiative of its kind in Trinidad & Tobago to support local talent.

A release from the company explained that the Christmas Show Windows competition gives the opportunity to designers - both professional and amateur Christmas enthusiasts - to decorate Excellent Stores windows for the season.

Eighteen designers were selected to decorate each of the eighteen store windows across Excellent Stores’ Movietowne, Trincity, and South locations. Designers were challenged with capturing the chosen theme, The True Spirit of Christmas featuring Excellent Stores Christmas decorations and products in their designs.

On Friday 18 October, the show windows were revealed in a media launch held at Excellent Stores’ Trincity mall branch.

In her opening remarks, Lisa Siu Chong, Director, Marketing & E-commerce said, “Excellent Stores is built on the foundation of helping people become the best versions of themselves.  We believe in giving people the tools, inspiration and time so that they can live, and create and do the best version of themselves.

So how do Christmas Show windows tie into this? We are hoping to inspire people to experience these windows like a destination, where families can get up one day and go to Excellent Stores and window browse because it brings the family together and they get to spend some quality time together.  Where we can get people of Trinidad and Tobago to experience the true spirt of Christmas, which is of love, hope, and joy.”

At the event, the C3 Centre and Movietowne Port of Spain window designs were revealed via video on digital screens.

Guests and customers expressed amazement at the intricacies and level of details that the designers each put in their respective windows.

The Excellent Stores Christmas decorations were creatively used and some had handcrafted pieces, lights and featured a mechanical element. Several designers captured local or traditional themes while some opted for modern looks and one display was even crafted mainly from recyclable materials.

The competition featured a vast cross section of participants from teachers to doctors to engineers to event planners and decorators and people who simply just love Christmas.

There are up to $100,000 TTD in prizes to be won across three categories - Judges’ Choice (highest score) with a grand prize of $60,000, Peoples’ Choice Award (public voting online) which carries a $30,000 reward and Best Use of Featured Product, the winner of which will receive $10,000.

People are encouraged to visit the windows at the three stores to witness the designs before voting.

Voting for the Peoples’ Choice Award takes place online from October 24 to November 24 at www.myexcellentstores.com.

Winners will be awarded at a public media event on November 30.

The unveiling of the show windows last Friday also marked the launch of Excellent Stores Christmas Collection. The event was hosted by Jamie Thomas, with live performances by Lujoe and the Gifted who did their signature ‘Parang Slide’ and festive music from Nehilet Blackman and the Lights Band.
