Family assaulted, robbed on camping trip
A family was assaulted and robbed on a camping trip on Thursday.
A 59-year-old man of Cunupia, his 43-year old wife and their 14-year-old son embarked on a mini-camping trip in Chaguaramas for the long Easter weekend.
According to reports, around 3 am, the 14-year-old boy was asleep in the family's white AD Wagon, while his parents were in a tent just off Teple Dora, located off the Western Main Road, Chaguaramas.
The teenager was awoken when someone struck him to the right side of his face, following which he observed three men standing by the car.
One of the men was armed with a cutlass.
They forcibly took the boy and threw him into the tent occupied by his parents.
The men announced a holdup and demanded the keys to the vehicle.
The family gave the suspects the keys and the assailants then escaped.
An alarm was raised and the police were notified.
Officers of the Western Division conducted inquiries and the vehicle was found abandoned and intact later that afternoon at Dean’s Bay.
PC Douglas is continuing inquiries.
