Family of five homeless after fire

A family of five, which includes three children, is now homeless following a fire in Sangre Grande on Monday night.

While no loss of human life was recorded, police said that two dogs and a parrot had been killed in the fire.

Police said that at about 11.15 pm on Monday, they received a report of a house on fire along Railway Road Extension, Sangre Grande. Appliances from the Sangre Grande fire station responded and they were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

However, the house was completely destroyed.

Fire officers were unable to give an official cause for the blaze, and investigations have been launched.

Police said initial damages had been placed over $100,000, as a vehicle that was parked in the yard was also destroyed by the fire.
