Family of five tied up, assaulted in Claxton Bay robbery

Police are investigating a report of a home invasion in Claxton Bay where five persons were assaulted and tied up.

The victims are said to be between the ages of 23 and 54 and included three women.

According to police reports, at 5:00 am on Saturday, the group was at home when three men forced their way inside.

The men, police were told, were all wearing masks, and at least one of the suspects was armed with a firearm.

They announced a hold-up and proceeded to assault and tie up the victims.

They then robbed the family of a quantity of cash – total estimates at $50,000 – as well as an estimated $180,000 in diamond jewellery.

The suspects then made good their escape on foot.

The victims were able to untie themselves, and a report was made to the police.

Inquiries are on-going.
