Family nabs suspect after teen robbed of gold chains on birthday

A suspect has been held after a 19-year-old teenager was robbed on her birthday in Palmiste on Monday night.

According to a statement issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), a 29-year-old Moruga man was held by the family who chased him after the robbery. The man was then handed over to the authorities. 

Police officers were told that the 19-year-old was celebrating her birthday with her family at their home at Palmiste Park, San Fernando, around 9:30 pm when a man approached them and snatched two gold chains from her neck before running off. 

The family then acted quickly, chasing the suspect and detaining him a short distance away. 

Officer of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, who were on patrol in the district at the time, were immediately alerted to the situation.

The man was arrested in connection with the incident and one gold chain recovered from his possession.

The suspect is alleged to have thrown the second gold chain into some nearby bushes before he was caught.

Investigations are ongoing.
