Fantasy to launch League of Angels

Three years after giving birth to and housing what was dubbed their "sister band" in Entice Carnival, popular mas band Fantasy Carnival will take to the streets of Port-of-Spain on its own for Carnival 2019.

This, after months of rumours and online speculation about the two popular mas bands and their respective offerings for 2019.

Now it appears that all relevant questions will be answered this weekend as Fantasy Carnival launches their 2019 presentation, "League of Angels" this Saturday, August 18 at O2 Park in Chaguaramas.

Ahead of the launch, Fantasy Band Leader, Shawn Wong revealed in a release that the separation of the two bands was always a part of their long-term plan and referred to all the rumours and speculation as "proof that Entice has grown enough to now stand on its own".

"Fantasy Carnival is now entering our eighth year as one of the nation's most popular mas bands and we would like to sincerely thank all the masqueraders, mas officials and service providers who have contributed to our growth and success over time. Precisely at the five-year mark, we formed and registered Entice Carnival as a separate company and entity. We decided at that time it was prudent to nurture this second band until it grew strong enough to stand on its own - and that time has come," he said.

Wong added that many longstanding Fantasy committee members have now shifted their attention to focus on making the Entice Carnival mas band a greater force to be reckoned with, while Fantasy Carnival has attracted a host of fresh, young designers, promoters and committee members dedicated to the band and the brand.

"Before we decided to come into the business of mas," Wong explained, "we looked at all the major players - and the minor ones - and we examined their strengths and weaknesses and adapted strategies from those lessons and  take a different approach to the mas business in order to preserve our brands for longevity, to ensure the utmost quality in terms of production, service and of course, the most amazing and genuine mas experience possible every Carnival."

Wong would not reveal any specifics of the 2019 presentation and invited those interested to "come on down to the launch this Saturday" instead.
