Farmers to appear in court over pump seizures

Three farmers are expected to appear next week before a Port of Spain Magistrate on allegations of abstraction of water for use.

The three farmers were issued a summons for court on Tuesday.

They are expected to answer the charges on May 22.

The charges stem from allegations that the farmers have been taking water from watercourses without licenses.

Earlier this week, a  number of water pumps were confiscated by Estate Police from the Water And Sewerage Authority (WASA) In El Socorro North.

This was done after a video, which appeared to depict water being siphoned from a “dirty drain” to be used for crops, went viral online.

More on this as it becomes available.
