A 41-year-old father was convicted of cruelty toward his 14-year-old daughter, after he was found guilty of beating her.
According to a report from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), De Leon Celestine of East Dry River, Port of Spain, appeared before Magistrate Aden Stroude in the Port of Spain 5th Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday to answer to the charge.
Celestine was fined $3,000 and has 28 days in which to pay the fine. If not, he faces three months hard labour.
Celestine was found guilty of beating his 14-year-old daughter, on Thursday, June 2, 2016, causing suffering and injury to her health.
The child disclosed the beating to a school social worker the next day, who referred the matter to the Child Protection Unit.
Celestine was charged by WPC Ann-Marie Rudder, of the Child Protection Unit, Port of Spain Division, on Saturday, June 4, 2016.
