Fete with the Saints celebrates patrons as fete sells out
While other school fetes seem to be suffering the effects of the economic downturn, St Marys’ College’s Fete with the Saints is defying the odds.
The school’s major fundraiser will be held today at the college grounds in St Clair.
Tickets for the fete have been sold out since Tuesday.
Roberto Ramirez, head of the St Mary’s Past Students Union, which is responsible for the fete, told Loop that the fete has been sold out every year for the last three years despite the increase in ticket prices from $925 to $975.
“People don’t want to spend money bad and they want to choose a fete where people will deliver. When a fete price drops people know the promoter is cutting back but when you come to St Mary’s we are delivering,” he said noting that they have invested in the best cut meats and improved the overall menu.
Ramirez said every year they aim to give patrons more and praised the patrons for making the fete what it is.
To that end, this year’s theme is Celebrate You.
“We are celebrating the patrons who have given us our success. We bring the suppliers together, but the patrons make the fete,” he said.
He said the fete has exploded since they decided to move from the school grounds on Frederick Street to the field.
He also attributed the fete’s success to the entertainment which has consistently included Machel Montano as the headline act. Kes the Band will also perform this year.
All proceeds from Fete with the Saints go toward the improvement of St Mary’s. This year, proceeds will go toward the refurbishment of the chemistry lab.
