The Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) has written to Venezuelan Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Carlos Amador Perez Silva requesting to chart a way forward in securing the FSO Nabarima.

In a statement on Saturday, it said an ecological disaster is looming in the Gulf of Paria.

FFOS said: "The FSO Nabarima's situation is neither new nor novel and we believe that both the Maduro Regime and our Government have been dragging their feet while an ecological disaster is looming in our shared Gulf of Paria.

It is our hope the Ambassador Silva will accede to our request and we can eventually convince the Maduro Regime, our Government and the wider global community to mount a combined emergency effort to stabilise the FSO Nabarima and extract all of the oil."
