Fire warden in court after man allegedly set on fire

A fire warden appeared before a Rio Claro Magistrate earlier this week on allegations of setting a man on fire.

Keron Rebiero, 28, of Moruga, appeared before Magistrate Rae Roopchand charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Raymond La Fortune in Moruga on Easter Monday.

He was represented by attorney Petronilla Basdeo.

The State’s interest was represented by Sergeant Shazeed Mohammed.

After submissions to the court, the matter was adjourned to May 29.

Rebeiro, whose brother is a police officer, was placed on $100,000 bail with a surety, with the alternative of a cash bond of $15,000.

On Eastern Monday, La Fortune was allegedly doused with puncheon rum, and other liquors and then set on fire.

He remains warded at the San Fernando General Hospital as a result of this.

One of Ribeiro’s siblings, Richie Ribeiro, has already appeared before the courts on this matter.

He was given similar bail and cash alternative, and that matter is also expected to resume on May 29.

More on this as it becomes available.
