Fire officers discharged from hospital after accident
The two fire officers who were injured in a vehicular accident on Sunday morning were discharged from hospital this week.
The officers, identified as FSSO Noreen Austin and FO Lee Jackson, will be monitored over the next two weeks as they were told that injuries from vehicular accidents can sometimes show symptoms later on.
Austin, police said, suffered a leg injury while Jackson suffered an injury to his head.
Police said around 5.00 am on Sunday morning, fire officers received a report of a crash along the southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, in the vicinity of Bejucal Road.
A tender was dispatched to the scene.
When the officers arrived, and were preparing to exit the vehicle, a Chevy Colorado truck crashed into the tender.
The two aforementioned officers, as well as the driver of the van, suffered injuries upon impact.
All three injured individuals were rushed for medical treatment at the nearby Chaguanas District Hospital.
Police suspect the driver of the van fell asleep while operating the vehicle which led to the crash.
He is said to be aiding with inquiries.
More on this as it becomes available.
