Created : 8 November 2017
Fire officers are currently on location at Sea Lots to determine what caused the fire which resulted in the destruction of 11 homes and 37 persons being homeless.
No fatalities or causalities were reported.
According to police reports, around 5:50 pm on Tuesday, fire officers received a call about a fire at the residential community off Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots.
Within 15 minutes, appliances from the Wrightson Road Fire Station were on location.
Fire officials said the flames spread quickly due to the close proximity of the buildings in the community.
But the quick work of the officers resulted in the fire being contained.
Officers also credit the quick response of residents who formed bucket brigades to contain the blaze and doused all nearby structures with water.
The scene was visited by two councillors from the Port of Spain area, as well as the deputy mayor.
The fire resulted in a heavy backlog of traffic for vehicles coming into Port of Spain along the west bound lane of the Beetham Highway, as fire officers were forced to block two lanes of the roadway near the scene of the blaze.
