Fire Services battle blaze at Physiotherapy Dep't in POSGH

Firefighters were called out to quell a blaze at the Port of Spain General Hospital on Monday.

According to the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), around 2:40 pm today smoke was seen emanating from the Physiotherapy Department, Port of Spain General Hospital.

The fire services were immediately called in to put out the blaze, and the NWRHA says the smoke has since cleared.

Preliminary reports indicate that the source was within the kitchen area of the department.

As a precautionary measure, three patients from the Intensive Care Unit situated above the Physiotherapy department were relocated to another area. No one was injured.

The Physiotherapy Department will remain closed on Tuesday to facilitate deep cleaning of the area. Outpatients with scheduled appointments will be contacted to reschedule.
