Firearm seized in La Horquetta, three in court after seizure in Sando

A police exercise in La Horquetta on Monday resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm.

The weapon, police said, was a chrome Beretta 9mm pistol with one extended magazine.

It was found in an abandoned house along Eustace Bernard Street by officers of the Special Crime Suppression Unit.

No arrests were made in connection with this find as at the time there were no citizens within sufficient proximity.

This unit was led by Sup Brandon John, and included Sgt Liverpool, Cpl Wellington, Cpl Durity, and others.

The exercise took place between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm and saw several searches conducted in the La Horquetta community.

Two persons were arrested on outstanding warrants, while one man was held on inquiries into robberies and shooting offences.

A total of 13 fixed penalty tickets were issued to errant drivers.

More on this as it becomes available.

Three in court for firearm seizure

In an unrelated incident, a woman and two men will reappear before a San Fernando Magistrate today on firearm and ammunition possession charges.

The trio, identified as Sudi Abdul, 22, Renaco Morris, 24, and Danna Francis, 27, were all held on Thursday night along Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, after a .38mm revolver, loaded with two rounds of ammunition, was found in a car they all occupied.

They all appeared before Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor yesterday.

PC Besiden Che of the San Fernando Crime Patrol Unit was the complainant (charging officer) in the matter.

Police Prosecutor Ramdath Phillip represented the interests of the State.

The charges were laid indictably and the trio was not called upon to enter a plea.

Although the accused were in custody since Thursday, the court was informed that the State had yet to procure criminal background tracings on the trio, and as such, the matter was adjourned to acquire the tracings so that bail could be considered.
